Horizontal shaft impactors do their crushing by throwing material against the blow bar and then against the impact aprons. The bar therefore takes the initial strike, and its alloy sets both the wear life and how the machine behaves when something uncrushable arrives.
Melco casts HSI blow bars across the full alloy range: high chrome for abrasive clean rock, martensitic steel for mixed duty, austenitic manganese for high impact and recycling work. Bars are supplied in weight-matched sets so the rotor stays balanced.
We work from OEM drawings, customer drawings or a physical sample. Where a customer is unsure which alloy to run, we normally suggest trialling two grades on the same machine and comparing tonnes per set.

Most horizontal shaft impactors run three, four or six bars depending on rotor design and duty. Fewer, heavier bars suit primary crushing; more bars give a finer product and steadier load.
Three things matter most: matching the alloy to the feed, turning the bars at the right point rather than running them to destruction, and keeping the apron gap set to the manufacturer figure. A worn apron setting pushes far more work onto the bars.
Most symmetrical designs can be rotated once to present a fresh face, which typically recovers a substantial share of the original life. Turn them before the wear reaches the mounting area.
We supply matched sets as standard, because mixing wear states unbalances the rotor. Individual bars are available where you are replacing a single damaged casting from a recent set.
